Waterford, MI- The Oakland Community College softball team hit the pause button on their conference season this afternoon to face off against NAIA WHAC opponent, Rochester Christian University.
It came down to the wire in game 1 as the Warriors made a bid for a comeback that came up just short as the Owls took the win 5-4, with game 2 having the same outcome as game 1 for the Owls, as they handled Rochester 9-4. As it stands the Owls record sits at 17-10 overall, and 14-4 in conference.
Game 1 saw sophomore pitcher Elyssa Frezza toe the mound once again for the Owls as she threw 7 innings of 9 hit ball, giving up 4 runs total while striking out 3 and walking 2. Offensively for the Owls, sophomore first baseman Katelynn Perry shined as she had a key RBI double in the bottom of the 6th inning to extend the Owls lead at the time. Freshman DH Cheri McCants was also responsible for driving in 2 runs for the Owls as she reached base on an error by the Warriors in the 6th inning as well.
Game 2 featured freshman pitcher Abby Stefanski step into the circle for the Owls, and managed to go the full 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. Perry's bat stayed hot in game 2 as she had 3 RBI's thanks to a triple and homerun. Sophomore first basemen Kamryn Kasak had a big hit in the game as well for the Owls as she drove in 2 thanks to a double in the 4th inning.
The Owls will return to conference play on Friday when they'll host Henry Ford College for an afternoon double header. First pitch is at 3pm.
