Volleyball captures first Win of the season against Alpena
Alpena, MI- The Oakland Community College volleyball team earned their first win of the early season on Sunday as they managed to take down the Alpena Lumberjacks in three sets. With the win, the Owls improve to 1-4 on year, while the Lumberjacks drop to 1-4 as well.
The Owls made quick work of the Lumberjacks as they managed to sweep Alpena in three sets, winning the first set 25-20, the second 25-13, and the last 25-18.
Sunday's win wasn't only the first win of the 2025 season, but it was also the first collegiate coaching win for first year head coach, Colleen Szakacs.
The Owls were led on the court by Sophomore Pin Hitter Emily Snay, who tallied 8 kills and 9 digs on the afternoon, while Freshman Pin Hitter Sam Jones contributed with 7 kills of her own along with 8 digs. Freshman Libero Mattea Ball had a solid afternoon for the Owls as well as she managed to record 12 digs.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday as they'll participate in the Skippers Quad, hosted by St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI.
