Owls Grind out Win at Home against Monarchs, Clinch Postseason Berth
Auburn Hills, MI- It was a wild one last night at Oakland Community College, where the men's basketball team hosted the Macomb Community College Monarchs in a game that had serious playoff seeding implications. The Owls and Monarchs played a game that consisted of thirteen lead changes and the score tied seven times throughout the forty minutes of play, which ultimately saw the Owls take home the win with a final score of 74-73.
With the win, the Owls improve to 20-6(8-4) on the season, while the Monarchs fall to 15-12(8-4). Not only did the men improve their status in the standings in the MCCAA East last night, but they have also secured their spot in the upcoming NJCAA Great Lakes District Tournament! Currently, their bracket and seed are to be determined, but this marks back-to-back seasons for the Owls reaching the postseason.
On the night, sophomore guard Nick Speiser had a game high 25 points for the Owls, along with 5 rebound, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore forward Jordan Wright contributed with 21 points on the evening, while also tacking on 7 rebounds and 2 assists to his docket.
Up next for the Owls is a home game this Saturday when they'll welcome in Mott Community College for a 3pm tip-off. The men will also be celebrating Sophomore Day and will have a brief ceremony before and after the game to honor the work put in by their student-athletes.
