Cleveland, OH- It was a successful business trip for the OCC Men's basketball team this weekend as they traveled down to Ohio to take on the Lakeland Lakers on Saturday and the Cuyahoga Triceratops on Sunday, winning both contests and improving their record to 3-0 in the early campaign.
Saturday's afternoon tilt against the Lakers saw the Owls head into halftime with a 42-31 lead, but a second half push from the Lakers brought the score back to contention. Ultimately, the Owls would pull off the win in the end, going onto win 81-80.
The sophomores led the way for the Owls in this one, including forward Jordan Wright who led all scorers in the contest with 26 points, while contributing with an additional 10 rebounds, giving him his first double-double on the year. Wright also had a defensive presence in the game as he also tallied 3 blocks for the Owls.
Aaron Chapman made his presence felt in this one as well as he crossed the 20-point mark for the second game in a row as he ended his night with 22 points and 3 assists. Sophomore guard Nick Speiser added to the cause with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Sunday's contest against the Triceratops featured a comeback win from the Owls as they went into halftime down 45-42, but would explode for 53 second half points, securing the win 95-85.
Speiser came up big for the Owls on Sunday. Going 10-13 from the floor, Speiser dropped 26 points and added 8 rebound and 8 assists to his stat sheet. Wright had another eventful game, as he notched 19 points, 6 rebound, 2 steals, and 2 blocks to his weekend resume. Freshman center Charles Kage found his footing in this one as he ended his day with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
The men will have a couple days off before making the trek up north to face off against both North Central Michigan and Bay College on Thursday and Friday. Thursday's tip will be at 7:30pm, while Friday's match will kickoff at 7pm.
