Port Huron, MI- The Oakland Community College volleyball team spent their Saturday participating in the SC4 Quad as one final tune-up before MCCAA East conference play begins. In the two contests, the Owls split on the day as they faced off against the Delta College Ducks, were they would fall 3-1, but then come back strong in the latter half of Saturday to beat the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves 3-1.
With their performance on Saturday, the Owls record now stands at 2-5 on the young season.
In Game one against the Ducks, the Owls played 4 very close contested sets. They would lose the first set 25-23 and go onto win the second set 26-24, but would falter in sets three and four by losing 25-23 and 25-20.
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Snay filled the stat sheet for the Owls as she allotted 10 kills and 18 digs against the Ducks. Sophomore Middle Audrey Cole would match Snay with 10 kills of her own while also tallying 7 digs. Freshman setter Parker Kitts contributed to the cause by leading the team with 22 assists.
Game two on the day ended the weekend on a high note as the Owls would manage to take down the Timberwolves in 4 sets. After dropping the first set 25-23, the Owls would rip off 3 straight wins against the Timberwolves, winning 25-22, 25-19, and 25-15 to close out the game.
Leading the way again for the Owls, Snay would have a game high 16 kills as well as leading the way for both teams with 14 digs. Cole once again added to the cause with another 10 kills, while Freshman libero Mattea Ball had 10 digs on the afternoon.
The Owls are back in action today as they will open up conference play against the Macomb Community College Monarchs at home. Game time is at 7pm.
