Auburn Hills, MI- The regular season for the Oakland Community College softball team came to a close over the weekend as the Owls played their last conference games of the season against St. Clair County Community College and Henry Ford College.
On Friday, the Owls split with the Skippers, losing game one 2-4 and winning game two 5-3. Saturday's contest against the Hawks saw the Owls take both games of the double header, winning game one 9-3 and game two 13-3 in 5 innings. The ladies end their conference season with a record of 21-9, good enough for second place in the MCCAA East.
With conference play out of the way, the Owls are looking ahead now to the NJCAA Great Lakes District Championship this week down at Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. As the 4 seed in the B bracket, the Owls first matchup will be against Lansing Community College on Wednesday, May 6th at noon.
Going forward, the Owls fate will be decided by their play as the tournament is a double elimination setup. If the Owls win on Wednesday, they'll play at 3:30pm against the 1 seed, Grand Rapids Community College. If they lose game one to the Stars, then they'll be relegated to the losers bracket where they'll resume play the following morning, and have an uphill battle to get to the Championship game on Friday.
