Waterford, MI- The Oakland Community College softball team delivered late-inning drama in game one before falling in the nightcap, earning a split against Lansing Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls opened the doubleheader with a thrilling 10-9 victory, capped by a walk-off grand slam from sophomore outfielder Sianna Hill in the bottom of the seventh inning. Trailing entering the final frame, OCC rallied to load the bases before Hill delivered the decisive swing, clearing the fences to seal the comeback win.
Hill finished an outstanding game 1 performance with 2 hits and 6 RBI's. She was one of four Owls to record multiple hits in the opener, joined by sophomore third baseman Elyssa Frezza, sophomore first baseman Katelynn Perry, and sophomore outfielder Emma Borkowski who each tallied two hits. Frezza and Perry also batted in a run as OCC's offense came alive late.
In game 2, the Stars responded with an 11-2 victory in five innings to salvage the split. Lansing jumped out early and maintained control throughout, limiting the Owls' offensive opportunities. Sophomore first baseman Kamryn Kasak led OCC in the game 2 with two hits and an RBI, accounting for much of the team's offensive production.
With only four games remaining for the Owls, their record sits at 18-8 in conference, which puts them firmly in second, and 20-15 overall.
