Dearborn, MI- The Oakland Community College softball team faced off against Henry Ford College this past Saturday in an afternoon tilt that saw both teams go home with a win when all was said and done after the conclusion of the double header. The Owls would take game 1 with a final score of 18-0 and game 2 would go to the Hawks, who secured their win with a 4-3 victory.
Currently, the Owls sit in second place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings with a record of 8-2 and 9-7 overall.
It was an offensive onslaught for the Owls in game 1 as they tallied a season high 18 runs, with the biggest hit on the day coming from sophomore outfielder Sianna Hill who smacked a grand slam in the top of the first to extend the Owls lead early on. Hill would end the day with 5 RBI's and 2 hits total.
Several Owl hitters also contributed on the afternoon, as sophomore Elizabeth Pugh, sophomore Elyssa Frezza, sophomore Katelynn Perry, and freshman Kaitlynn Elkins all had multi-hit performances with Pugh, Perry, and Elkins also accounting for 2 RBI's.
Frezza got the nod once again in game 1 and went all 5 innings for the Owls, only surrendering 1 hit and striking out 5.
Game 2 for the Owls featured a 3 hit performance by Perry, consisting of 2 singles and a triple, while tacking on an RBI to her slate. Pugh also contributed with a multi-hit performance against the Hawks as she had a single and an RBI double in the 5th inning, as well as a stolen base in the contest.
The Owls will be back in action on the diamond tomorrow afternoon when they take a break from conference play to face off against NAIA opponent Madonna University in Livonia. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
